Counting the Omer Day 31: Tiferet of Hod

Tiferet of HodTiferet of Hod: Balance/compassion of humility.

This week’s trait, humility, is an essential ingredient to personal growth. You can’t learn if you’re not humble enough to think you have something TO learn.

Balance can mean knowing the difference between humility and low self-esteem: they are not the same thing at all. One can have lots of self esteem and still be humble. Alternatively, one can have low self-esteem but still NOT be humble. True humility finds the right balance – it’s not about low self-esteem.

Tiferet is also compassion – another reason humility is not the same as low self-esteem. True humility is driven by caring for and about other people. About believing you have things you can learn from other people. Having humility helps one to be more compassionate – if you feel superior to other people it can be much more difficult to find compassion in your heart.
